For example, you may want your document to show the date when it was created. On the other hand, you may want to show the date when it was printed , which you can do by setting it to update automatically.

This is useful if you frequently update and print a document because you’ll always be able to tell which version is the most recent. Word can automatically label each page with a page number and place it in a header , footer , or side margin. When you need to number some pages differently, Word allows you to restart page numbering.

Alternatively, you can add page numbers to the header or footer by clicking the Page Number command and then selecting Top of Page or Bottom of Page. If you have an existing header or footer, it will be removed and replaced with the page number. Word allows you to restart page numbering on any page of your document. You can do this by inserting a section break and then selecting the number you want to restart the numbering with. In our example, we’ll restart the page numbering for our document’s Works Cited section.

In Word that was an option. In , every header or footer on the drop-down menu has some kind of border or line–even the ones listed as “blank. Can someone please tell me how to make truly blank headers and footers? I’m trying to create documents with page numbers at the bottom–no borders or lines in the footer. And I want headers at the top, again with no lines or borders.

You can add any content you like. In reply to Suzanne S. Barnhill’s post on January 13, I think this is because I am working on a formatted template downloaded from a publishing company, but I don’t know how to change it. Is there a theme selected that I can modify or de-select?

In reply to tjp71’s post on January 13, The border you are seeing is likely a paragraph border, possibly part of a header or footer style. These cannot be selected. See Weird Lines and Borders. If you really want a template, you can download one from here: Blank Header Footer Building Blocks Add-In for Word It would go into either your Word Startup Folder or your building blocks folder and will give you gallery entries for blank headers and footers.

It may be a subfolder of that one. This is a hidden system folder. This site in other languages x.
